Bedbugs invade Niketown:
Tents, flip flops, hibachi grills, tires and more bottles and cans than anyone could count were all found during a massive cleanup of Percy Priest Lake and its islands on Saturday.
Hundreds of people swarmed the islands beginning at 8 a.m and continuing through late afternoon to fill more than a dozen dumpsters with trash that had been left behind by boaters and campers.
The removal of 15-20 tons of garbage is part of a larger effort to encourage and enforce people to take better care of one of Middle Tennessee's most popular outdoor areas.
Organized by Cumberland River Compact, Team Green and other organizations, the cleanup was billed as Nashville's largest water cleanup project and was designed to raise awareness of the damage trash causes to this local resource.
The Corps of Engineers has begun stepping up its patrol of the lake and islands, popular with overnight campers, who reach the islands by boat.
