  • Monomorphic, worker size is very small
  • 1/16 inch long
  • Uneven thorax
  • 12 segments of antenna
  • 3- segmented club antenna
  • No spines on thorax
  • Reddish, yellowish, or light brown
  • Eyes well developed

Distribution

  • Omnivorous-- both sweet foods and meats or greases. Food is eaten where found, not carried back to nest.
  • Nests only indoors in northeastern states in walls of buildings and foundations, often in the most inaccessible places
  • Worldwide pest, common in towns and cities and in enormous numbers
