Bird Control

While birds are majestic creatures, they can also be dirty and quite the nuisance. Especially to business owners.

Having a large amount of birds nests in and around your business can create quite the mess! Bird droppings contain an acid that stains and can cause damage to a building if not cleaned properly while the droppings have a very strong odor and create a poor public image. Not to mention the hazard of slipping and falling!

Birds are also a public health hazard. They can carry such diseases as West Nile flavivirus, E. coli enteropathogenic, salmonella, histoplasma capsulation, tick borne encephalitis, and food borne illnesses. In addition to disease, birds often harbor blood sucking insects, bird mites, viruses, and fungi. Humans are susceptible to catching all these diseases both through contact with a bird or it’s droppings.

Luckily there are a number of different bird control options out there. Netting can be used to block off ceilings or any piping to prevent birds from flying up and nesting on those structures. This is especially effective in spaces like loading docks and gaps between building structures. Spiking is a technique using long rods and spikes set on a flat surface to prevent birds from rooting and nesting. Lastly, gels are a popular control method for eaves, ledges, and other flat surfaces. The gel burns the bird’s feet if they try to land. It is harmless to humans and can last for up to a year.
